AN online sale of designer handbags for charity crashed yesterday whenit was swamped by bargain-hunters.
The Oxfam website, offering big names such as Mulberry and Osprey at knockdownprices, was overwhelmed when thousands of women logged on simultaneously.
Tiffany Bracelet and BangleThe three-day online sale began at noon yesterday, but soon began receiving asmany as 6,000 hits per minute.
The website froze, triggering angry complaints on fashion websites fromfrustrated buyers denied one of hundreds of designer, vintage and high-streetname bags.
Tiffany NecklaceOxfam had to deal with some very determined shoppers. One used an online'robot' to hit the site more than 1000 times a second, another claimed to havebeen trying to access the sale from three laptops at once.

Oxfam's Deputy Trading Director Barney Tallack said: 'We knew handbags would bepopular, but this has been extraordinary. We have been completely overwhelmedby the incredible demand, and we would like to apologise to everyone whoexperienced problems trying to access the site.'
