MEN are so adorable when they try to be girlie.

If any man reading this is single and looking, you can learn from this.

Women love a man who tries to take an interest in the things that interest us.

My co-presenter Terry is a man's man, in his early 40s, with a build Geoff Capes would have been envious of in the 1980s, shaved head and a deep, gruff voice.

He's the sort of man you might describe as a "diamond geezer".

He is not the sort of man you might think was in touch with his feminine side.

That's why when I walked past him to get to my desk, he said something that almost gave me a seizure: "Ooh is that a new handbag?"

I did a double take, felt my own forehead to check I didn't have a temperature and said: "Why yes, it is."

"Ooh let's have a look," said Matt, our IT bloke (mid 20s, Welsh, likes rock music).

I lifted my lovely red Chinese print handbag up for them to see, shocked at the two least likely men in my office to respond to a fine piece of sequinned embroidery.

"Yes, that's very nice," said Terry. Matt nodded in agreement.

I waited, expecting the barrage of sarcasm and mickey-taking to follow, but nothing.

The end of my little fantasy, however, was when I asked Terry what it was that had drawn his eye to noticing I had a new bag.

"It reminded me of those calendars you get in the Chinese takeaway and made me think how much I wanted some egg fried rice," he said.

Typical. Still, we can't expect miracles to happen overnight.
